For many people, going on holiday in their caravan means going on holiday with their dog. That means finding a dog-friendly caravan park that not only loves your pooch almost as much as you do but is also completely safe for them too.
So, when you’re looking for your next dog-friendly caravanning holiday, here are our top tips for you to check out. Your dog may even give a bark of approval when you arrive – though we can’t guarantee that!
Remember, too, that just because a site accepts dogs, that doesn’t mean you might not have to pay a little extra to take them to the site you want. We’ve tried to flag that up below where we can.
1. Family Fun in Dorset
If you have kids and a dog to consider, it can sometimes seem as if the pitches are against you. Locations that are happy to welcome dogs might not be in the most kid-friendly areas, perhaps judging that kids and dogs don’t always mix well. That said, we love Sandford Holiday Park in Dorset for offering spacious caravan pitches and plenty of child-centric activities. Everyone from toddlers to big kids are catered for, meaning you and the pooch can relax too.
2. Base to Explore the Lakes
The Lake District is an excellent place for humans and dogs to explore but choosing the right caravan base can make all the difference. We like Limefitt Park near Windermere as a no-frills base location that offers a dog-walking field as well as being a gateway to the wonders of Cumbria. A maximum of two pets are permitted for an additional £40.
3. Wave Hello to Wales
For those hoping to explore Wales with their dog in tow, we’d recommend River View Touring Park. It’s set in an excellent location with a river walk nearby, not to mention almost 160 acres of dog-friendly woodland only a few minutes away by car. With Llyn Brianne Reservoir within a comfortable drive too, there are plenty of walks to enjoy. If you’re searching for a base in Wales where you and your dog can spend some quality time outdoors, this might be the spot for you.
4. Coasting Down to Cornwall
Cornwall is an enchanting place to visit, full of rugged landscapes and teeming with history, so why not make it a holiday to remember for you and your four-legged friend by seeing it all from your base at Newperran Holiday Resort? As well as being dog-friendly, it’s also another family-orientated caravan park with a skate park, adventure playground and heated indoor pool to go along with the dog-welcoming beaches in the area. Couple that with some gorgeous walks nearby and you’ll have a happy pet at the end of it all.
5. Cross the Border to Scotland
At the other end of the UK we have Scotland, and you don’t have to drive too far into the country before you find some gorgeous pet-friendly locations. Our recommendation is Burrowhead Holiday Village in Dumfries & Galloway. It’s welcoming to dogs and families alike, plus it’s close to some stunning coastal walks with some stunning views. This is definitely one to bear in mind!
At Colapz, we have an excellent deluxe portable dog shower kit which is great for cleaning your dogs after a muddy walk or just to give them a regular shower! Be it, one of our incredibly versatile collapsible buckets or the easy to use collapsible twin bowls, you can be sure that we've got all eventualities covered here at Colapz.
